The Overseas Citizenship of India Scheme has become operational with effect from 2nd December, 2005. The salient features of the scheme are given below: ELIGIBILTY CRITERIAA foreign national, who was eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at anytime after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 and his/her children and grand children, provided his/her country of citizenship allows dual citizenship in some form or other under the local laws, is eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Minor children of such person's upto the age of 18 are not eligible for OCI. Moreover, if the applicant had ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, he/she will not be eligible for OCI. APPLICATION FORM AND PROCEDUREEach applicant is required to fill Form XIX Part A and Part B which can be downloaded from this website - (Please download from the link). The following documents shall be enclosed in respect of each applicant:

Service fee as prescribed in the Citizenship Rules 2009 for renunciation of Indian citizenship - Dh. 570/-(Dh. Five hundred seventy only) Note: - In case the application for Registration as OCI is rejected for any reason, the fee will be refunded after deducting an amount of AED 100/- as processing fee. PROCESSING TIME
The time for processing an application, from the date the application is received at the Embassy, complete in all respects, would be a maximum of 30 days. PERIOD OF VALIDITYThe Registration Certificate will be valid for life unless renounced or cancelled. FACILITIES
The Overseas Citizens, however, will not enjoy the following Rights:-
PERSONS WITH DUAL PASSPORTPersons having the passport of the country concerned, (one of the sixteen countries listed) and that of a third country, can also apply for a Certificate of Registration. OVERSEAS CITIZENSHIP IS NOT DUAL NATIONALITYIt may kindly be noted that Overseas Citizenship is not a full citizenship of India and, therefore, does not amount to dual citizenship or dual nationality.
