Two Indian Naval Ships INS Brahmaputra and INS Vinash have docked at the Mina Zayed to participate in ongoing IDEX 2005

Two Indian naval ships INS Brahmaputra and INS Vinash have docked at the Mina Zayed to participate in ongoing IDEX 2005. INS Brahmaputra is a guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy built at Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers, Kolkata. She is the lad ship of this class and was commissioned in April 2003. The Indian Navy's directorate of naval design has designed INS Brahmaputra. Captain Chandra Shekar Azad commands the vessel. INS Brahmaputra was actively involved in rendering assistance to oSri Lanka recent Tsunami disaster. The role of Indian Navy during the Tsunami relief operations was widely appreciated.

INS Vinash is a Veer Class missile corvette built by Goa Ship Yard Limited and is commanded by Lt. Commander Paul Samuel. The ship is powered by four gas turbines and can achieve a speed of 40 knots. The ship's weapon outfit includes surface to surface missiles and guns.

The visit of the two ships is an indication of the growing defence co-operation between India and UAE subsequent to the signing of the defence co-operation agreement between both countries which was signed in July 2003.
