Opening of Condolence Book on the demise of Shri R. Venkatraman, former President of India

Shri R. Venkatraman, former President of India passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2009. As a mark of respect to the departed leader, Government of India declared seven days’ State mourning from January 27 to February 2, 2009. A Condolence Book was opened at the Embassy premises to mourn the sad demise of Shri R. Venkatraman, on February 1-2, 2009.
In signing the Condolence Book, the UAE Government was represented by H.E. Ahmed Abdullah Al Musalli, Director, Department of Asian and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He noted that Mr. Venkatraman had been a great scholar who played an important role in strengthening the relations between the two friendly countries. He said that the Indian community and the Republic of India would overcome this great loss and will face the future with stability and strength. He noted that the family of the departed leader would be able to overcome the loss of such a great personality who would always be remembered. He also prayed for the prosperity and growth of India.
Ambassadors, other dignitaries and members of the Indian community came in large numbers to the Indian Embassy to express their condolences to the departed leader.
