Indian Embassy to Honour Dedicated Workers November 22, 2009
In order to recognize the contribution of Indian workers who have demonstrated extraordinary skill in their area of work and have performed their duties with sincerity and dedication, the Embassy will hold a “commendation ceremony” at its premises on Sunday, November 22, 2009. Thirty workers have been identified for award of commendation certificates in the following categories:
- AC technician
- Carpenter
- Electrician
- Mason
- Plumber
- Welder
- Equipment Operator
These workers were identified by a “selection committee” consisting of recipients of Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards as also representatives from Indian associations in the UAE. While the Indian Embassy has regularly acknowledged the contribution of Indian entrepreneurs and professionals to the promotion of India-UAE relations, this is the first occasion when the contribution of Indian workers will be publicly acknowledged.
There are nearly two million Indian nationals in the UAE, with over 65% of them in the blue-collar category. Indians have been associated with the successful completion of almost all major projects in the UAE and other countries of the Gulf.
Following this pioneering initiative, from next year the Indian Embassy proposes to expand the category of workers to be recognized and commended for their work to include sectors such as healthcare, hospitality and tourism.
