H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, visited the Embassy of India on October 23, 2005, to express condolences at the loss of lives in the recent earthquake in Jammu & Kashmir State of India. He was received by H.E. Mr. C.M. Bhandari on arrival and introduced to the officers.
Ambassador thanked His Highness for the support extended by the Government of UAE to both India and Pakistan for earthquake victims and briefed Sheikh Sultan about the support extended by India by way of relief supplies to the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. Ambassador also expressed full cooperation from India if the UAE side decided to source men and material, especially medical care, medicines, tents and blankets, from India for supply to Pakistan, which would be highly cost-effective. Ambassador further offered to facilitate movement of supplies and UAE personnel across the border post between India and Pakistan. Ambassador added that there would not be any difficulty, suggesting that if the Embassy was informed in advance, the border crossing points could be suitably advised. Sheikh Sultan welcomed the suggestions.
Ambassador also conveyed gratitude, through H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa, to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, for offering to bear all the expenses involved in the highly complex surgical separation of the conjoined twins Sabah and Farah, from Patna, Bihar in India, to be conducted at the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
